Sandman found her unconventional art supplies in unconventional places. Once, while waiting for her car to be repaired, she was inspired by radiator hoses on display and purchased a selection to fill with plaster that she then arranged in a monumental installation that snaked across a museum gallery wall like sentence fragments of a hieroglyphic language.
